Sunshine, Sandwiches, and Smiles: A Recap of Lunch on the Lawn

 


There is something magical about breaking the routine of the school day, especially when it involves a picnic blanket and a favorite grown-up. Our recent Lunch on the lawn event in April was a resounding success, proving once again that some of the best school memories are the simplest ones to make.

With over 200 adults joining us on campus, the energy was electric (and the weather was perfect!). Here’s a look at why this event has become a community favorite.

Low Stress, High Connection

The beauty of "Lunch on the Lawn" is its simplicity. We wanted to create an event that focused on connection rather than complex logistics.

  • Easy Check-In: Families skipped the front office lines and checked in at tables right outside. A quick sticker later, they were ready to feast!

  • Lost and Found Spotlight: We took the opportunity to spread out the "Lost and Found" mountain. Seeing parents reunited with long-lost hoodies and water bottles was a win for everyone involved.

  • Picnic Vibes: Families brought low-profile chairs and cozy blankets, transforming our green space into a massive community picnic.

A Community That Cares

One of the most heartwarming aspects of the day is seeing how our "village" looks out for one another. We know not every parent can take time off work, but no student eats alone at this event.

The "Scoop Up" Policy: If a student didn't have a visitor, our incredible staff and fellow parents "scooped them up" to join their circles. Inclusion is the secret sauce that makes this event work.

To add a little extra sweetness, we provided popsicles for students whose special adults couldn't make it—though, in the spirit of fun, we had enough for pretty much everyone to enjoy a cool treat!

From the Picnic Blanket to the Blacktop

The fun didn't stop when the lunchboxes were packed away. Once the eating was done, parents headed out to the blacktop to join their students for recess. Whether it was a quick game of catch, watching their kids master the monkey bars, or just chatting in the sunshine, it was a joy to see the bridge between home and school get a little bit shorter.
